March 15, 2019And, yes, Helena being a parent (especially a stay at home Mum/Dad) is a vocation that sadly is not held in esteem by our society and most definitely not supported by Government and policy makers. I am university educated and had a brilliant career in the corporate world. I loved the work that I did and I was climbing the corporate ladder. But when my first child was born, I gave up my career to be a stay at home mum during his early childhood years. My husband and I gave up a great deal of things, but it was our choice to do so. Many friends said that I was crazy to give up my career and the world saw me as someone that did not contribute to society. My philosophy has always been that being a parent is more important than a career. My role as a parent is not to raise a child but an adult. An adult with morals and ethics, an adult that will contribute to the betterment of society. And, in the current world that we live in, that is not an easy task for parents. A child that chooses a detrimental/destructive path in life is one of the greatest wounds to a parents heart and soul. Parenting is the most important and prestigious job above all others. I wish the world would see that and support it.
