Weekend Notes & A Little Life Update
Hi! I’m back in action. Early last week, Keith noticed a crack in my screen and within minutes, my computer started going crazy. We took it to a repair shop and $600 and a week and a half later, I finally have it back. I really dislike answering emails, or quite frankly, any sort of messages from my phone, so I’m pretty happy.
We’re almost two months into quarantine and it’s gotten both easier and harder.
I go through mental mind games where two 2-3 days I’m like “I got this!” followed by one day of sheer panic and anxiety. It doesn’t help that Nate has started asking us when things are finally going to be open. At first, I could tell he loved being at home, but he’s definitely gotten over it.
As some of you may know, Keith has been doing the sound editing and mixing for ‘The Last Dance.” which has really been the majority of what our time has been going to. He’s been in the basement working on it and I’ve been upstairs holding down the fort. It hasn’t been easy, but definitely worth it! Many of you have messaged me to tell me how much you’ve been enjoying the series and I agree! Even if he wasn’t on the creative team, I’ve been LOVING it.
I don’t know about you all, but I’ve been baking so much during the last few weeks. One thing I haven’t made is chocolate chip cookies. Kat shares her recipe, so that’s next up on our list! The look and sound incredible.
One of my recent favorite white t-shirts is $15. It looks great when paired with these high-waist tapered pants or under this linen-cotton blazer.
In addition to the t-shirt, I got this PJ set. It comes in a pants version and a shorts version. I also think this PJ cami/short set & PJ Romper are cute too.
Types of music to listen to while working. I personally love listening to jazz while I work and have my favorite playlists saved to my highlights.
How to cut your own hair. Have you been considering? My hair has not been this long in over ten years! I’m actually loving the length, but could definitely use to trim my sad ends.
Meghan shares 18 podcast episodes that she’s enjoyed. Totally bookmarking this!
Five women, including myself, share how we’re balancing motherhood during quarantine.
Explaining the pandemic to my past self (hilarious!)
15 ridiculously easy baking ideas.
I ordered a few knee length shorts to see how I feel about them and I have to say, I’m kind of into the look when done the right way. I ended up keeping these.Hoping to share an outfit soon!
A few weeks ago on the blog, I shared some small business love by listing out my favorite Etsy shops at the moment. A lot of you seemed to like the personalized stationary & home decor shops I mentioned, which I also cannot get enough of.
Verishop has quickly become one of my favorite online destinations. Often, I’ll just go on their site and browse to see what brands and items they’re curating. They do such a wonderful job! If you are in the mood to splurge on a little something, they’re having 25% off women’s clothing and accessories. They also have the best home section. I have these candle holders and absolutely love them.
Should you wipe down your food/packages? What the FDA is saying now.
Love the look & fit of these high-rise tapered pants (comes in 4 colors.)
Why it’s OK to get all dressed up with no where to go.
This made me smile.
Lastly, to all of my mamas out there, wishing you all a wonderful Mother’s Day. At the end of the day, even in these hard times, it’s important to remember that we’re surrounded by love.
xoxo,
Helena

Thank you so much for the inclusion, Helena! I also am LOVING The Last Dance (particularly because I was a kiddo in the Chicago suburbs in the 90s!) Bravo to Keith and to your guys’ teamwork during this time! Enjoy your weekend!

Your notes are always so interesting but I am really intrigued by the knee-length shorts… how did you get into them – like, where did you first see them???

Loooove the knee length shorts! I have a pair just like the ones you linked from HM last year. I wore them with a button up and felt super classy 😉

Regarding podcasts, there is a wonderful author and speaker by the name of Alain de Botton. He has a brilliant mind, is exceptionally articulate and is extremely insightful in the areas of life and relationships. He has a wonderful youtube channel titled “The School of Life”. One of my favourite presentations that he has given is on romanticism and love. It is a must see for everyone, those in a relationship and those not. It is on youtube, duration about 1 hour and 15 Min, titled “Alain de Botton on Romanticism”. Highly recommended viewing.
