Our boy turned one this past Monday and to echo what I wrote on instagram, there are not enough words in the world to describe the love for this little guy. Out of everything I’ve ever done in this world, becoming a mother has equally been the BEST, yet most challenging thing. I’ve never slept so little, even with having an incredible sleeper! I’ve never worried so much, even though I like to consider myself to be an easy-going person. I’ve never had to turn down so many jobs, events, trips and outtings with friends, yet been completely okay with it. The most surprising of them all, I’ve never been one that dreamed of becoming a mother my entire life, never went gaga over babies and to be honest, never really LOVED children, but it’s true what they say “it’s different when it’s your own!” The love is overwhelming. Sometimes TOO overwhelming, if that makes any sense at all.
A Few Updates:
He’s still coasting around, but not fully walking. Yes, I’ve been warned that once he starts, it’s non-stop action. That makes me nervous since it’s already kind of like that.
We feed him pretty much everything we eat (within reason), but his favorite foods include: waffles, sweet potatoes, scrambled eggs, toast (and basically, any kind of bread), broccoli and oatmeal with cinnamon.
He loves smoothies! When I make them for us, I whip a little up for him and it consists of simple ingredients such as berries, a little baby spinach, banana and some almond milk or water.
He’s still an amazing sleeper, sleeping from 7PM to 6:30/7AM on most occasions, but because he’s teething again, we’ve had a few rough nights. And speaking of teeth, right now he has four on top and two on the bottom, with two more coming in.
He’s still napping two times a day. Typically he naps from 9:30-11 and from 2-3:30.
He’s in a size 5 diaper and we get the Kirkland brand from Costco. Not only are they the best bang for you buck, but price aside, they’re really our favorite.
We’re still feeding him Lebensworth formula, but slowly making the transition to almond milk. For the mamas out there that chose not to go with cows milk, what route did you go?
When it comes to toys, he really has little interest. He’d much rather explore every corner of our home or play with a jar.
This Saturday, we’re throwing a party with some of our closest friends and family to celebrate this big milestone!
Thank you all so much for following along on the first year of my motherhood journey.
xo,
Helena

Hey Lauren,
Typically H&M, Zara, Nordstrom, Boden Baby and Ralph Lauren. I’ll work on a more detailed post!

Beautiful pictures Helena! He exudes health and happiness and you radiate tremendous pride. Was wondering if you keep a (physical) baby album or store them all in an electronic album?
April 27, 2017Helena
Hey Nicole,
Ugh – I have one physical album and everything else is electronic, but I’m not happy about it!! My next goal is to get all of his photos into physical albums!

You may or may not have one yet, but I SWEAR by amber teething necklaces. We never knew our daughter was teething and she kept her 7:30PM-6:30AM sleep schedule through each bout. She hardly drooled either. Each little is different, but it could be worth a shot, if you haven’t tried!

Hey Tiffany,
So great to know! Def going to give them a shot. Thank you!

Our pediatrician told us the transition to milk was unnecessary and focus on healthy, vitamin, protein and fat filled meals. So when I was done nursing both of my girls, we just went to sippy cups of water with snacks and meals and it has been great!

Happy Birthday Nate! What a cute little fellow. Motherhood is the best reward. I have a 15 year son and a 10 year old daughter. Can you believe that the love for your child grows even more? Well, it does. I am happy for you and your husband. I’ve been reading your blog for at least a year and love it! Many Blessings!

April 28, 2017Helena, his hair is getting longer and I can see little waves. Will you let his hair grow long or will you take him to have his first haircut?

Happy birthday Nate! You are beautiful ?????

As for milk alternatives, we went with goats milk once I weaned him off the breast. But now he prefers rice or almond milk, which is what we drink. Xxx

So adorable! Time seriously flies.
My daughter is allergic to cow’s milk and while I still have her on a toddler version of soy formula, I also like hemp milk. It has a TON of calcium and lots of fats which they need at this point (she’s really tiny, tall, but tiny so she needs the fat). She’s going to be 2 in June and is just now in a size 4 diaper – ha!

Beautiful Photos!!! Happy Belated Birthday Nate!! Wow! the big 1. I’m a mother of two boys, only advise is to live in the moment, because it goes by so fast when you are not looking. Enjoy him every day!! God bless.
