Monthly Favorites in Beauty {December}

December Monthly Beauty Favorites, Helena of Brooklyn Blonde

This month, the focus is a bit more on some hair products and a new (to me) fragrance that I’ve been in love with. Typically, I like to use something for at least 6-8 weeks, if not longer, to feel comfortable recommending it. All four of these have been in my rotation for awhile and they’ve all become my go-to favorites.

Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray, Helena of Brooklyn Blonde

Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray: I feel like by now, most of you have tried this cult favorite, right?? If not, you’re kind of missing out. There’s no denying that it’s (very) expensive, but it really is the best and I sort of panic when I run out. This spray gives volume, texture and just makes my hair look better on days I’m not too lazy to style it and wear it down. Also, one thing to note that it is not a dry shampoo. Some reviews online complained that it didn’t do anything in terms of cutting grease, but that’s because that’s not it’s goal. However, it definitely gives cooler, sexier hair.

Aveda Damage Remedy, Helena of Brooklyn Blonde

Aveda Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair: I started using when David, my colorist at FourteenJay said it was one of his favorite products from the line. It acts as heat protectant, detangles and prevents any further damage. Since incorporating it into my routine, my hair feels smoother and overall, just happier. For those wondering, I’ll use this first and the Oribe spray as a finishing product.

Aveda Invati Advanced Exfoliating Shampoo: I never thought that a year and a half after having Nate, I’d still be experiencing annoying hair problems. I lost so much of my hair after I had him, that I made it my mission to figure out how to speed up the growing back process. For those of you who’ve been in the same post pregnancy boat, you know how depressing these hair woes can be. After countless hours of falling down various online rabbit holes, I ended up with hair supplements and the Aveda invanti line. This product itself is an exfoliating shampoo that cleanses your scalp. It removes the buildup of sebum and product residue that can clog pores and seriously affect healthy hair.

Honestly, once I read about the science behind it, it made complete sense! We take such measures to exfoliate our face, but how come we’re not taught to take care of our scalp the same way? Even David (from FourteenJay, same as above), whose opinion I trust wholeheartedly, confirmed it’s a brilliant line. The only thing, it doesn’t work overnight and you do need to commit to using to really see and feel results.

Carthusia Mediterraneo: When it comes to fragrances, I’ve said it before but I am incredibly picky. Everything makes my head hurt, even scents that smell so good on other people, but when I test drive, I end up getting a migraine. Enter Carthusia Mediterraneo. If you’re into scents that are fresh and citrus-y, yet not in an overpowering, obnoxious way, you must try this. Whenever I spray it, I feel like I’m transported to a coastal vacation in Italy. It has never made my head hurt and caused any symptoms of nausea, which is major in my book. Even when I shared this scent with my fragrance snob friends (I mean that in the best possible way), they were like “yes, the scent and line  is one of our favs!” Who knew? Highly recommend!
